Interesting. French on other hand (canb) a downward, bon\jour You can give it a lift, Bon/jour! but that requires a psychological effort or natural effervescence. At best it's neutral bon-jour.
Mind you Hello's pretty much the same. The main difference being there are many ways to say 'bonjour' in English: Hello, Hello there, Hi, Greetings, Hey, Yo, Whatssup, Good day, Good Morning, Good afternoon, Alright.
