now I thnk about it, oz, is pretty unique. One one hand, like the Americas, New Zealand, where the colonial
powers have remained in power, however Australia, like much of its unique wildlife, had/has a 100% unique indiginous people. ... on an island that's the size of a continent! but cut off from the rest of the world.
Very different to Pacific sailing travellers who arrived on New Zealand maybe 600 years ago, and not like the widely mixed up races in the Americas, who themselves came from land bridges with Eurasia at some point
Cut off from the rest of the world for hundreds of thousands of year and with a distinct look.
The europeans created the usual divided twin culture enviroment, but as they were mainly on the coast as the natives in the interior ... another difference to elsewhere inthe world.
There's been some progress since in the lst 40 years (just a date when Crocodile Dundee was released) : recognition of their rights to live their lives as they did before europeans arrival, the remaning of some sites (Uhura?) Ayres Rock, and I imagine better or at least fairer representation. I don't know a lot, just the names have been changed, that's 4 sure.
So yeah, it's unique, and there's relatively little social mixing. Also I've never seen an Aboriginal CEO of a mining company and don't expect to anytime soon. I'm not even sure they work in mining companies?? I would have to gen up on 'what do Aboriginies do (all day)?'
Has some assHat with a degree in talking rubbish decided the noun Aboriginal is forbidden, or have they said, no, it's ok, i've checked and it's still ok to call a very dark skinned person with a large flat nose, broad forehead, round brown eyes, wiry hair and good strong white teeth, shortened to abo [antisocial behaviour order]
[asbo, surely? ed]
Once Were Warriors, more than cracking film if you not seen it. NZ not AUZ.
